Kalan's story
Hi, I’m Kalan! I’m a volunteer surf life saver at Maroochydore SLSC, and I’ve got both a Bronze Medallion and Advanced First Aid and Resuscitation Techniques certifications. I’ve been involved in lifesaving for the last seven years, from helping little ones to now volunteering my time back to the club. I’m dedicated to keeping both kids and the community safe in the water and on land, which has really inspired my passion for working in paramedicine. I’m naturally a sporty person and love all things sport, like swimming, kayaking, running or any kind of ball sport. I grew up on the Sunshine Coast and love the fitness and beach culture, so when I’m not studying or working, you’ll find me at the beach or in the pool training with the amazing crew of black swan athletes from Maroochy Surf Club. Before this role, I worked at the former Best Friends pet store, which is now known as Pet O among vets, groomers, animal shelters/rescues, dog trainers and more. It goes without saying that I love spending time with animals. Through this role, I’ve learned the many benefits of having an animal around and am always happy to share my knowledge with anyone who’ll listen. If you asked anyone around me about my character, you’d find that I’m a hardworking, empathetic and supportive person to be around. I live by the mantra that life is too short to be anything but happy, and I hope to reflect that in anyone’s journey that I am a part of!
